Sato Sakura Museum: cherry blossoms in Japanese painting

45–60 min
45–60 minutes in the morning; last entry 16:30Directions ↗

Sato Sakura Museum

Nakameguro’s blossoms also appear in painting. Sato Sakura Museum is a small museum focused on contemporary nihonga, suited to a quiet pause between walks. Begin with the exhibition theme and spend time with selected works rather than rushing through.

Exhibitions rotate and the museum continues its Sakura Hyakkei series. Painted blossoms do not indicate current flowering beside the river. Checked in October 2026, tax-inclusive admission is ¥800 per adult, ¥300 for high-school/university students and free for junior-high pupils and younger. Primary pupils need an adult. Exhibition changes may close the museum.

Leave Nakameguro through the Main Gate, cross Yamate-dori and follow the museum route via Bessho Bridge to 1-7-13 Kamimeguro. This is a street walk, not direct station access. Hours are 10:00–17:00, last entry 16:30; closed Mondays or the following weekday after a public holiday. Facility information lists a lift and accessible toilet, but the entire station-to-gallery route has not been verified as step-free.

Allow 45–60 minutes before returning to the river. On a closed day, omit the museum and start beside the water rather than walking to a shut entrance.

Meguro River in Nakameguro: bridges and leafy streets

45–75 min
45–75 minutes by day; longer during blossom crowdsDirections ↗

Meguro River, Nakameguro

The river near Nakameguro Station is an easy introduction to the district: a narrow channel, small bridges and shops close to everyday life. Choose a short section, walk one bank, cross a bridge and return on the other before lunch near the station.

Cherry blossoms are generally associated with late March to early April, but bloom dates and lighting events vary each year. Outside that season, trees, shopfronts and bridge views remain attractive. Illustrations are not evidence of today’s blossoms. The whole river is nearly 8 km; this route covers only a station-area return walk.

Walking public riverside streets is free; food and shopping cost extra. Allow 45–75 minutes, longer during blossom crowds or traffic controls. City paving does not certify all bridges, kerbs and shop entrances as accessible.

This suits street photography and small-shop browsing rather than a large lawn picnic. Keep narrow footpaths and bridges clear and stay off the road when photographing. Return towards the station for one AFURI lunch.

Nakameguro Koukashita: everyday shops beneath the trains

45–60 min
45–60 minutes in the afternoon; individual shop hoursDirections ↗

Nakameguro Koukashita

Nakameguro Koukashita turns roughly 700 metres beneath the railway into a shop street connected with the station. Trains pass overhead while cafés, restaurants and lifestyle shops make use of an often overlooked urban space. Browse after lunch without another train ride.

There is no shared admission ticket or universal shop schedule. Public passage is free; food, books and paid services are charged separately. Nakameguro Tsutaya Books can be a reading stop, but it is a different branch from Daikanyama T-SITE, with its own seating and purchase rules.

The viaduct shelters parts of the walk in light rain, but open sections remain: this is not an entirely enclosed mall. With a pushchair, shorten the route to shops near the station. Individual entrances, seats and toilets are not certified step-free by their location under a railway; booking and ordering terms vary by shop.

Allow 45–60 minutes to select a few shops, rather than treating all 700 metres as a checklist. Finish at the separate ONIBUS station-area branch at 2-14-1 Kamimeguro for 30–45 minutes, or take a drink away if already full.
