Sona Area Tokyo: a hands-on family lesson in preparedness
60–90 min
Damaged-city scenery and interactive questions make the first 72 hours after a disaster something families can discuss together. This free learning facility in Tokyo Rinkai Disaster Prevention Park suits a thoughtful visit rather than a thrill ride.
The first-floor experience takes about 30 minutes officially; both floors take 60–90 minutes. A disaster-response base is not a public overnight shelter for visitors.
Individuals and families need no booking; groups of ten or more do. Electric wheelchairs are accepted, with one chair at a time in narrow passages. Seated visitors cannot see through the operations-room viewing window. Skip the experience on its Monday or second-Tuesday closure without disrupting the rest of the walk.
Closed Mondays and second Tuesdays, shifted after holidays; groups of 10+ book.
Opened on 27 March 2026, Tokyo Dream Park combines performance, dining and immersive art. A public-space visit with lunch and coffee can fit the walk without concert tickets.
On 6F, UMIKAZE KITCHEN serves Burghetti, a hamburger steak with short pasta, beside Dream Terrace. HORIGUCHI COFFEE à la table on 2F offers a specialist coffee break. Allow 60–90 minutes for lunch and public areas; not every floor is freely accessible.
8F RÊVE DES LUMIÈRES requires a separate timed ticket: online adults ¥3,000 weekdays or ¥3,300 weekends/holidays, with higher onsite prices. Add 60–90 minutes and shorten later shopping. Concerts, theatre and art each have separate admission. The Doraemon temporary exhibition ended on 30 September 2026.
Priority toilets are on 2F/6F, with a changing table and women-only nursing room on 6F. Wheelchair/stroller loans are not provided. Choose lunch as the core stop and add art only if it interests you.
Art and performances require separate tickets; restaurant serves only drinks/desserts 10–11, coffee shop has closures.
Small Worlds: a city understood through tiny details
90–150 min
Miniature cities, airports and people bring overlooked everyday details into view. Model and transport fans, and families who enjoy spotting small scenes, can spend 90–150 minutes indoors, making this a substantial rainy-day stop.
Airport displays show aircraft and ground operations; a new Shibuya zone opened on 11 June 2026. Shuttle and rocket launches are suspended for October maintenance, so launch effects are not promised. These are models, not a real Kansai airport beside Ariake.
Admission costs ¥3,200 for ages18+, ¥2,100 for12–17 and ¥1,700 for4–11; under4 free. The 2F cafe is inside the paid museum, not a free street cafe. Save dinner for Garden if you prefer a drink-only break.
Strollers and wheelchairs are accepted, with lifts and ramps on2F/3F. Lift door width is80cm and cabin about130×140cm, relevant for larger equipment. Garden is an editorial10–15-minute walk east, returning from miniature detail to real bayside streets.
Check the dated operating calendar; launches suspended in October. Admission, food and model experiences are separate.
After miniature sightseeing, Garden offers dinner, everyday shopping and a family break in one place. Mall, theatre, hotel and spa are neighbouring facilities with separate operations and charges.
Choose the shops you actually want, then dinner on5F. Konana uses Japanese dashi and soy milk for pasta, and offers child meals/chairs. Shops generally10–21, dining11–23, with branch-specific last orders and menus.
Accessible toilets are onB1/1–5F, and wheelchairs can be borrowed at2F information with area restrictions. Official walks from Ariake2B and tennis station2A include stairs; station-lift routes differ from the nearest numbered exits.
Add Izumi spa only if wanted. It is not a free shopping perk or automatically free for all hotel guests. After disaster education, lunch and models, dinner is already a complete finish.
Branch last orders differ; nearest-exit maps contain stairs. Theatre/spa extra.
