2026 Fumiko Hori: The Brilliance of Life

Plants, animals and microscopic life can all star in Japanese painting. A small, detailed exhibition break east of Shinjuku Station.

2026.09.16 — 12.06

Look again at small, everyday lives

The exhibition follows natural subjects across Fumiko Hori’s long career, from flowers, landscapes and animals to water fleas. Its appeal is watching an artist stay curious about the world, not merely learning a famous name.

Gai Xiaomi recommends it to plant lovers, nature observers and anyone happy to linger over details. Start with a familiar flower or animal and see where the artist directs your attention.

Food-magazine covers become museum works

Food-related works include covers for Kyo no Ryori (Today’s Cooking) and original illustrations for the lifestyle magazine Sarai. Seeing familiar everyday images as originals invites a closer look at composition and observation.

An intimate museum; stay as long as your interest leads

On Nakamuraya Building’s third floor; allow 30–60 minutes. If dining at Manna in the same building, check the museum and restaurant separately. One being open does not guarantee the other is.

Before you go

¥1,000 applies to this exhibition, not every exhibition at the museum.

Follow on-site entry, photography and storage rules.
